Michael was
selected to complete three large wall drawings, titled "Dragline,"
each approximately 9 ft. x 18 ft., for the four-person show titled
"blank place," Aug.13-Sept.19 2009, at the Averill and Bernard
Leviton A + D Gallery of Columbia College, Chicago.
A catalog produced by the college accompanied
the exhibition with essays by Rael Jero Salley and Jennifer Murray. A video
of Michael working and the wall drawings in progress was also featured
at the opening and on the gallery's Web site for the run of the
show.
Michael was selected by the Mid Atlantic
Foundation and the Delaware Division of the Arts to be a panelist
for the Individual Artist Fellowships in the discipline of Visual
Arts: Works on Paper that concludes November 16, 2009.
Michael received an Illinois Arts Council
Fellowship Award in Visual Arts for 2009.
Michaels'
one-person show, "Alpestrine,"
opened at Linda Warren
Gallery, Chicago. The show was reviewed by Alan
G. Atner in The Chicago Tribune and by Patrice
Connelly in New City.
Michael was in an
invitational group show honoring his undergraduate drawing
instructor Michael Cornfeld at the Birke Art Gallery, Marshall
University, Huntington, West Virginia.
