Michael was selected to complete three large wall drawings, titled "Dragline," each approximately 9 ft. x 18 ft., for the four-person show titled "blank place," Aug.13-Sept.19 2009, at the Averill and Bernard Leviton A + D Gallery of Columbia College, Chicago.

A catalog produced by the college accompanied the exhibition with essays by Rael Jero Salley and Jennifer Murray. A video of Michael working and the wall drawings in progress was also featured at the opening and on the gallery's Web site for the run of the show.

Michael was selected by the Mid Atlantic Foundation and the Delaware Division of the Arts to be a panelist for the Individual Artist Fellowships in the discipline of Visual Arts: Works on Paper that concludes November 16, 2009.

Michael received an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award in Visual Arts for 2009.

Michaels' one-person show, "Alpestrine," opened at Linda Warren Gallery, Chicago. The show was reviewed by Alan G. Atner in The Chicago Tribune and by Patrice Connelly in New City.

Michael was in an invitational group show honoring his undergraduate drawing instructor Michael Cornfeld at the Birke Art Gallery, Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia.
